Eleanor Bennett Scholarship

Long-time suicide survivor activist Eleanor Bennett generously bequeathed funds from her estate to the Suicide Prevention Action Network (SPAN USA) in the memory of her husband and son, both of whom died by suicide. These funds are to be used to assist suicide survivors and attempt survivors in their efforts to advance suicide prevention, by helping underwrite activities relevant to suicide prevention.

  • The scholarship is a one-time award up to $500.
  • To be eligible for a scholarship, you must:
    • Be seeking assistance to participate in an activity relevant to suicide prevention within the United States. Eligible activities may include registration / travel expenses for mental health or suicide prevention events.
    • Be a current member or SPAN USA "Partner for Action" (contribution given within the last year).
  • What you must do:
    • Please download our Application Form & Instructions; read and follow the instructions carefully.
    • Write a 250-word essay describing the activities, how they will advance your education and/or the suicide prevention field.
    • Submit the application form and essay at least six months in advance of the event or activity and in advance of each quarterly deadline: January 1st, April 1st, July 1st, and October 1st.
    • If a scholarship is granted, all awardees will be asked to submit a 250-word essay at the completion of their activity.
    • Funds will generally be distributed as reimbursement for actual costs incurred.
