Survivor Stories

Read stories of other survivors:

You may also find reading the SPAN USA Network News quarterly newsletter inspiring as there are many featured advocates and survivors stories therein.

SPAN USA is all about transforming grief into positive action to prevent further tragedies. One way to do this is by putting a face to suicide and ensuring that the voices of survivors are front and center in the suicide prevention movement. We often get requests from the media and public officials to identify a survivor who would be willing to share his or her story of turning grief to action, science to service, or hurt to hope.

If you'd like to share your story, please do so by e-mailing us at info@spanusa.org. Be sure to indicate whether you'd be willing to have your story posted on our site and/or whether you'd be willing to be contacted by the media. Don't forget to tell us your name, address, city, state, zip code and daytime contact information.

Note: SPAN USA will respect your privacy and will not disclose your name or contact information without prior permission.

Adam Hartry's Story

I am a survivor of two suicides. I am a firm believer that the more I talk about how I was affected and what I did about it makes it easier for me to move on.

7 years older, Rob was the brother who taught me how to enjoy music and reinforced my love of reading. He challenged my mind all the time by playing chess and Scrabble with me. I had never imagined my life without him.
